Spring Branch (Texas) Smithson Valley strategist Ty Knutson committed to Texasaccording to Hayes Fawcett of Rivals.
He chose the Longhorns over offers from Houston, Texas Tech, Texas A&M, TCU, South Carolina and Oklahoma State.

Knutson is currently unranked in the 2027 cycle, according to the Rivals Industry Rankinga weighted average that uses all major recruiting media companies.
After returning to the Forty Acres on a junior day visit last month, Knutson landed a Steve Sarkisian and the Longhorns. His interest quickly grew and he is now enrolled in the state’s SEC program.
“Texas is amazing” Knutson told Rivals’ Sam Spiegelman. “They have treated me and my family very well and I am very excited to build our relationship. My favorite thing about them is how involved they are! Sark really cares about his players and develops them in the right way.”
Knutson led Smithson Valley to a state title in 2025. The Rangers went 15-1 and finished 18th in the Lone Star State, according to the Composite rankings of rivals. He threw for over 2,600 yards and 29 touchdowns while rushing for five scores.

“It means so much! It’s truly a dream come true,” Knutson told Spiegelman about getting the offer. “I love how Texas handled everything throughout the process. I built a great relationship with the coaches and really liked everything they had to offer.”
Longhorns add QB to 2027 class
Knutson becomes Texas’ No. 6 commitment for the 2027 cycle. The Longhorns are in the top 10 early in the Rivals Industry Team Recruiting Rankings.
New Orleans five-star wide receiver Brother Martin Easton Royal continues to lead the way. The No. 7 overall prospect and first WR in the cycle made a surprise commitment to Texas on Nov. 29 and remains locked in heading into the spring.

“Our bond is stronger than ever and it’s only getting stronger. » Royal recently told Spiegelman. “It went very well, as expected. They show me and my family more hospitality every time we come and they showed me how they are going to use me in their system… With the atmosphere there, the people in the building and the development there, I see myself being successful.”
Late last month, Texas added Arlington Mansfield Summit’s four-star EDGE program. Cameron Room at the fold. A top-250 recruit and top-40 player in the state, Hall is currently the only other blue-chip player in the class so far.
