Blades Brown has just made PGA Tour history!

The 17-year-old golfer, who made his professional debut at this week’s American Express golf tournament at PGA West in La Quinta, Calif., shot a 6-under 64 – the lowest score in a round of the PGA Tour by a player under 64 years of age. 18 years old over the last 40 years, according to Golf magazine.

Brown made eight birdies over a nine-hole stretch during the second round on Friday, Jan. 17, at the Nicklaus Tournament Course, the outlet noted.

Golf insider Justin Ray, who shared the historic moment in a post onalso reported that Brown passed all three teenagers who had carded 65s over the last 25 years: Justin Thomas in 2009 at 16, Tony Finau in 2007 at 17 and Ty Tryon in 2001 at 17.

“I play golf right now for a living, and I promise you, there are way harder things than playing golf for a living,” Brown said. Golf after his presentation on Friday. “Whether it’s a child lying in a bed (with) cancer… there’s a lot to be thankful for here.”

“I think keeping that in perspective, you can play golf for free on an amazing golf course and with great people,” he continued. “I think keeping things in perspective definitely helped me today.”

Brown said his putting skills played a role in the record-breaking round.

“When I got to three (birdies) in a row, I was like, okay, we need to get the putter in my hand,” he said. “I just think there’s an art to it. I’m not an artist, but I’m an artist on the green.

He continued: “I love being able to make putts, because, I mean, that’s the most precise level it takes to play golf, and I just love putting.”

Although the teenage golfer had a historic day on Friday, his performance at the Pete Dye Stadium Course on Saturday, January 18 was not enough to qualify. Brown played the final five holes in 4-over par, including a waterball at the par-3 17th. He finished his three rounds at 6 under, three behind the cut line.

Despite missing the cut, Brown has a positive outlook on his future in golf.

“Golf is a strange, funny game,” Brown said Golf Channel. “You will have good breaks on bad shots and bad breaks on good shots. But I will hold my head high. This is going to sting a little, but I’m looking forward to what’s next.
